This unique Spies, NY marked sword has Damascene quill back 28-3/4" blade. Carved ivory grip, eagle head pommel, fine engraved gilded scabbard with Liberty cap and American Indian. The unique and most unusual feature of this sword is the cannon barrel cross guard on partial carriage with articulating wheels. This is the only example that we are aware and most likely custom made. SIZE: CONDITION: Very good to fine overall. Blade is overall grey with staining and pinprick pitting showing clear Damascene patterns, etched "SPIES". Scabbard throat has unusual arc which precisely fits the underside of the carriage cross guard with the still turnable gilded carriage wheels.
