PRESENTATION SILVER CIVIL WAR GRIPPED FOOT OFFICER'S SWORD TO LT. ALEXANDER MULLIGAN.This higher grade Model 1850 foot officer's sword has a beautiful silver spiral grip with fancy triple twisted wire wrap engraved scabbard mounts and pommel, brown metal scabbard and presentation on top mount "PRESENTED TO / LIEUT. A. H. MULLIGAN / BY THE UNIONISTS / OF THE / 11TH WARD / N.Y. / FEB. 8TH / 1864". Alfred H. Mulligan enlisted as a private in New York City September 12, 1862 in the 127th New York Infantry and had service at Hilton Head, South Carolina until being mustered out April 16, 1866 from the US CT 103rd Infantry. SIZE: CONDITION: Sword appears as found with 30" grey blade with staining and pitting and partially discernible patriotic etching. Scabbard body is sound with iron patina, brass mounts and hilt have matching medium mustard patina. 52865-38 JS (3,000-5,000)
