SCARCE CIRCA 1830 EAGLE HEAD OFFICER'S SWORD WITH GEORGE WASHINGTON'S HEAD IN GUARD.Unusual militia sword with George Washington's bust as central theme of guard with patriotic American eagles found in circular quillon ends on either side. One quillon supports a knuckle bow with full winged angel terminating into eagle head pommel. This sword may have been a mourning sword or at least a memorial to George Washington. This is a type of pattern which could have normally had bone or mother-of-pearl slab grips, but now has silver plated flat metal grips; and entire hilt has been re-plated silver. The accompanying scabbard which fits quite well is gold plated engraved brass. SIZE: CONDITION: Good to very good overall. 30" straight blade has small engraved panels. As noted, silver plating to hilt appears after manufacture. 52865-26 JS (800-1,200)
