ELABORATELY DECORATED JAPANESE MATCHLOCK, TANEGASHIMA PISTOL, EDO PERIOD. JAPANESE PISTOL NSN 72 Cal. 72. Heavy bbl measures 16" and weighs over 7lbs, with characteristic cannon muzzle decorated throughout its length in nearly full coverage silver and gold "nunome zogan" inlay featuring a gold Tokugawa mon at breech behind the rear sight and gold inset kanji of presentation or ownership. Cock inlaid en suite with bbl. Japanese red oak full stock is lacquered black with gold Tokugawa mons. A desirable and scarce configuration, as most Tanegashima are long and thin. CONDITION: Very good overall, appears complete and original. Inlay on bbl largely present but oxidized and dull. Stock has old repair at toe utilizing wood pegs. Black lacquer is mostly complete with several cosmetic defects, with craquelure and reductions as can be seen in photos. Mechanics are functional with clean, clear bore. 52865-4 JS (2,500-3,500)
