FINE CONDITION HIGH QUALITY PAIR OF AMERICAN PERCUSSION POCKET PISTOLS BY V. LIBEAU OF NEW ORLEANS.LIBEAUSINGLE SHOT PERCUSSIONNSN/NSN.490 smooth bore(CA 1840) Cal. .490 Smooth bore. 4-1/2" Octagon bbls with Birmingham proofs marked "434" and "A70D" where covered by wood, are engraved "New Orleans" on top flats. Case hardened patent breeches have platinum bands. Back action locks with flat faced serpentine hammers are engraved with large open scroll. "V. LIBEAU" (working in New Orleans 1835 - 47) is on each lockplate. Triggers are set. American walnut half stocks with checkered bag grips, are iron mounted. Trigger guards have finger spurs, and there are cap boxes on bottoms of grips. CONDITION: Fine, as partially refinished. Bbls retain most of an old re-brown. Other metal parts retain most of their orig case hardened finish which has considerably browned and faded, with the exception of trigger guards which were blued, and retain traces of that blue, and are mostly brown. Stocks retain over 90% of their orig varnish with numerous light marks. Bores are fine, with some light pitting. Mechanically good, one lock weak. 53115-1 mgm108 (4,500-6,000)
