BACON SINGLE ACTION UNDERHAMMER PEPPERBOX WITH PERIOD HOLSTER.BACANPEPPERBOX8731Cal. 31. 4" ribbed bbl, blue finish to 2-pc walnut grips. Bbl rib is marked "BACON & CO. NORWICH C-T.". One rib is marked "CAST STEEL". Full blue finish. Iron frame is lightly engraved in a scroll motif. Nipple shield also shows scroll decoration. SN is stamped at bbl breech, under the grip on the frame and on the side of both action springs. Grips also have SN stamped. Holster is made of heavy black skirting leather and is form-fit to this revolver. Holster hood is held down by a tab. Holster also accommodates a loading rod with a wooden handle. CONDITION: Very good. Pistol shows an even, mottled grey/brown patina with staining and some roughness. Nipple shield retains considerable blue finish. All markings are sharp and clear. Grips are very good with only some small handling marks and no losses. Mechanics are crisp. Accompanying holster is very good with a crazed black finish. Tab and toe plug is intact. Hood is partially detached. A very nice example of an early Bacon pepperbox, one of only 200 made in a contemporary holster made for this gun. 52865-18 TEP (600-750)
