SCARCE AND DESIRABLE EARLY WINCHESTER MODEL 61 SLIDE ACTION RIFLE WITH OCTAGON BARREL.WINCHESTER617561622SHORTMODERN; C&RCal. 22 SHORT. 24" oct bbl, 3/4 magazine, full blue finish, straight grain American walnut stocks with pistol grip, grooved forearm and checkered steel shotgun buttplate. Bbl is mounted with standard sights. Left flat of bbl shows Winchester trademark, model and Cal. designation rolled. Right side of bbl shows Winchester address. "WP" proof is struck at bbl breech and on top of receiver. SN appears on bottom of frame on trigger guard. CONDITION: Very good to fine. Bbl retains 90% orig bright blue finish with some thinning toward the muzzle and high-point wear. Sights are very good. Markings are sharp. Bore is bright with strong rifling. Receiver retains 80% bright blue finish that has thinned at the carry point. Action bar shows some wear. Markings are sharp. There is a small stain in front of trigger guard. Stocks are very good, full sized and retain most of the varnish finish. Stocks show slight handling marks overall with some staining at the wrist. Buttplate shows most of the blue finish with some high-point wear. Mechanics are crisp. A nice example of an early Model 1861 Winchester Slide Action rifle with a rare octagon bbl. 53080-24 TEP (1,500-2,000)
