ICONIC CUSTOM LEFT HANDED WINCHESTER MODEL 70 MADE FOR COLONEL CHARLES ASKINS IN .308 NORMA MAGNUM.WINCHESTER70247818308 NORMA MAGMODERN; C&RCal. .308 Norma Magnum. 24" rnd bbl mounted in a custom modified action to left hand with all work being performed by the Kerr Sports Shop of Beverly Hills. 1pc tiger striped maple stock checkered in a diamond H-pattern in forearm and wrist. Cheek piece on right side for left handed use and silver pistol grip cap engraved "Chas. Askins". Charles Askins was one of the most prolific writers of his day in regards to hunting, shooting and the firearms industry. Askins was photographed using this rifle in Alaska after having taking a 70" Kenai moose. The .308 Norma cartridge outperforms most of the modern 300 Magnums, but can still utilize a standard length action. Mfg 1953. CONDITION: Fine overall with most custom blue finish remaining with some slight scratches at rear of tang from insertion of bolt and frosting of anodized finish on trigger guard and floorplate. Stock finish is very good, however finish is starting to flake at toe and bottom of cheekpiece. Slight finish loss on bottom at forearm and around trigger housing. The condition is as expected from a rifle that was used by one of America's big game hunters and sporting authors. A great opportunity to own a piece of sporting history. 53138-1 TDW (1,500-2,500)
