GEORGE SAVARY WASSON (American, 1855-1932) SCHOONER 'POLLY' BEACHED AT FORT MCCLARYOil on canvas Housed in a vintage white and gold painted frame Signed "G.S. Wasson.", history inscribed on verso stretcher and frame Note: "Polly", built in 1804 at Amesbury, MA, was the oldest coaster afloat at the time of her running ashore in 1891 at Fort McClary, Kittery Point, ME. She was a privateer in the War of 1812 and captured several prizes SIZE: 8" x 12". Overall: 11" x 15" PROVENANCE: A most historical and important collection from the estate of Maria Decatur Mayo Deyo (Lila) Garnett of Kittery Point, Maine. CONDITION: Good with 1/2" restoration upper left sky and minor touch-up 52714-46 AKL (2,000-4,000)
