CARVED AND ETCHED BRASS JEWELRY CASQUE WITH PAINTED PORCELAIN INSERT.Napoleon, III period, mid-3rd quarter 19th century, France. The box with hinged lid, mounted with a rectangular porcelain plaque, polychrome painted, depicting a young couple entering a private garden, the lid opening to reveal a red velvet lined interior. The removable tray fitted for a parure. Upon removal, tray reveals a deep velvet lined storage area for larger pieces. The ends of the casque fitted with incised brass carrying handles. The whole, pierce carved, with incised decoration of delicate scrolling leaf tips and with foliate vinery. SIZE: 6" h x 10" l x 6-3/4" w. CONDITION: Box in very good structural condition with minor discoloration. Velvet liner original, now somewhat worn and faded. 52874-19 HMG (400-600)
