EARLY LOUIS VUITTON STEAMER TRUNK BELONGING TO MRS. EDWARD DESHON BRANDEGEE.Late 19th century, France. The trunk of typical form, covered in Damier canvas print and with the monogram "B" painted at each end, along with later blue and red paint striping. The hinged lid opening to a well with three tie-down straps present, fitted top shelf absent. The interior compartment with eight dome shaped spacers of unknown purpose. "L. VUITTON MARQUE DE FABRIQUE DEPOSEE" stamped within black check of fabric periodically throughout pattern. SIZE: 22-1/4" h x 33-3/4" w x 20-1/2" d. PROVENANCE: Owned by Mrs. Edward Deshon Brandegee, also known as Mary Bryant Pratt Spraque Brandegee, who was credited with building the mansion on Faulkner Farm in 1890. Now called the Brandegee Estate, in Brookline, Massachusetts, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. CONDITION: Fabric soiled but mostly intact. Wood strapping with abrasions and in-use wear with all rivets intact. Original locks and latches present. Key absent. No serial number observed. 52829-94 HMG (3,000-5,000)
