TWO FRENCH CARRIAGE CLOCKS TOGETHER WITH A CRYSTAL REGULATOR SHELF CLOCK.

Second half 19th century, France. The first brass carriage clock with repeater, the white enamel dial with Roman numeral chapter ring above a subsidiary dial with Arabic numerals. The dial additionally marked "TIFFANY & CO. FRANCE". The eight day brass movement with time and strike winders striking on a gong. The case with beveled glass panels on all four sides and additionally a beveled window on top, the case raised on a molded plinth. Clock is accompanied by original leather traveling case, front protective door absent. The second a small brass carriage clock with turned brass carrying handle and rectangular brass corner brackets joined to a thin platform base raised on ball feet. The four sides and glass panel on top all with beveled edge. The rear of the case with hinged door. Unsigned eight day brass movement, spring driven and time only. The enameled dial with Arabic numeral chapter ring, paint-decorated with floral garlands draped between the numbers and marked "BAILEY BANKS & BIDDLE CO. PHILADELPHIA" and additionally marked "FRANCE" beneath the numeral "6". The third an oval French Crystal Regulator shelf clock, the embossed brass dial unmarked and back plate of movement with the maker's mark of "S MARTI MADE IN FRANCE" and additionally stamped with the retailer's mark "CALDWELL & CO PHILADELPHIA" and with the serial number "648539". The spring driven eight day movement striking on a gong. The brass dial with Roman numeral chapter ring, time and strike apertures, and blued steel hands. The oval case with four curved glass plates with beveled edge. The clock is offered with original twin cylinder pendulum with one cylinder broken, the second cylinder empty. SIZE: First carriage clock: 5" h. Second carriage clock: 3-3/4" h. Regulator: 10-1/2" h x 7" w x 6-1/4" d. PROVENANCE: A most historical and important collection from the estate of Maria Decatur Mayo Deyo (Lila) Garnett of Kittery Point, Maine. CONDITION: First carriage clock having repeater mechanism is frozen and currently inoperable. Carrying handle with significant corrosion at juncture to case. The brass case also with areas of significant corrosion. Coil gong with corrosion. Upon inspection, movement appears to be cleaned and free of corrosion, although we do not believe it is operable. The second carriage clock's beveled front plate with major diagonal fracture and loss of enamel upper right corner facing dial. Significant corrosion to case. Lesser corrosion present on movement. Movement needs cleaning and adjustment, currently inoperable. Crystal Regulator with incomplete pendulum as noted. The Roman numeral chapter ring with significant abrasion from over-cleaning; the numerals "IV" and "V" absent, others partially obliterated. Brass movement appears clean and probably operational. 52714-98 HMG (500-700)
