EXCEPTIONAL CARVED WALNUT SAVONAROLA ARMCHAIR IN THE MANNER OF LUIGI FRULLINI.Third quarter 19th century, Florence, Italy. Attributed to Luigi Frullini (Florence, 1839-1897). The panel back, carved in deep relief with a pair of crowned opposing eagles beneath the serpentine molded crest carved with a North Wind masque above a rondel carved with lion's masque and inscribed book. The back panel bordered by winged griffins, joined to heavy foliate carved arms with lion's head grips on multiple curved supports, hinged and joined to the panel seat carved with griffins in low relief, raised on a carved slat base comprising the Savonarola form joined to animal and foliate carved supports. SIZE: 48" h (back), 19-1/2" h (seat) x 32" w. CONDITION: Structurally very good with original surfaces. 52829-22 HMG (4,000-6,000)
