GOOD BLACK FOREST CARVED WALNUT MANTEL CLOCK.Circa 1938, Bavaria (modern day southeast Germany). The large case surmounted by mountain goats carved in deep relief on rock work above a hinged door opening with a carved bird to sound the hour above a carved dial with Roman numeral chapter ring mounted on white enameled cartouches centering time and strike apertures. The dial, flanked by a male figure blowing an Alphorn and mountain goat, all on leafy rockwork. The eight day brass fusee movement utilizing two mainspring barrels with fusee wheels, striking on a gong. The interior back of case stamped with either maker's or retailer's mark is faded and difficult to read. Clock is offered with pendulum and winder. SIZE: 24" h x 17-1/2" w. PROVENANCE: Contents of a lifetime collection "Brook Crossing," South Pomfret, VT. CONDITION: Brass movement appears clean and functional. Bird present but with some damages to body. Mountain goat beneath dial with one ear absent. Uppermost mountain goat with repairs to proper left legs. Old original undisturbed surface with dark patina, good overall. 52806-59 HMG (1,500-2,000)
