RARE AND UNUSUAL VICTORIAN BAMBOO ARMCHAIR.Third quarter 19th century, probably New York. The rectangular back with horizontal double crest rail centering a decorative element of woven bamboo above an over-upholstered heart shaped splat. The curved horizontal arms with turned bamboo supports. The back finials and arm grips of bamboo knots. The trapezoidal over-upholstered seat retaining original leather cover. Raised on cylindrical bamboo legs joined by double box stretcher. Chair is offered with a later custom seat cushion. SIZE: 41" h (back), 17" h (seat) x 22-1/2" w. PROVENANCE: Contents of a lifetime collection "Brook Crossing," South Pomfret, VT. CONDITION: Structurally very good with original surface. Normal and expected shrinkage cracks in bamboo, which does not affect structural integrity. Pleasant worn patina. 52806-28 HMG (400-600)
