FINE BENCHMADE INLAID MAHOGANY SIDEBOARD TOGETHER WITH FEDERAL STYLE SERVING TABLE.Second half 19th century, Portland, Maine. Attributed to Otto H. Lange of Portland, ME circa late 18th-early 19th century. 1) The diminutive sideboard with splash guard inlaid with three fan roundels. The case with serpentine front and eliptic ends fitted with a central serpentine drawer, flanked by banks of two bowfront drawers, all with contrasting fan-inlaid spandrels within string-inlaid borders above a medial shelf. The whole raised on square tapering legs inlaid with pendant bell-flowers. 2) Diminutive inlaid mahogany serving table, the rectangular single board top with half-serpentine ends and bowfront top above the conforming apron with central bowfront drawer, raised on square tapering legs. The table with contrasting crossbanding and string inlaid borders, each frontal leg headed by a rectangular veneer birch panel and with string inlaid borders. Drawer with original oval brass hardware. SIZE: 1) 42-1/2" h x 43-1/4" w x 21" d. 2) 30" h x 36" w x 18-1/4" d. PROVENANCE: By descent through the family of Major John Mead Gould. CONDITION: 1) With original, age-darkened surfaces, good color and patina. Small areas of crossbanding on drawer borders absent. One brass bail absent on proper right lower drawer. Otherwise very good. 2) Table with original surface, age-darkened with good patina and rich dark mahogany coloration. Structurally very good. 52936-4 HMG (800-1,200)
