1849 DATED TANSEL STYLE POWDER HORN.10" overall, Tansel style 2-1/2" spreadwing eagle with holding ribbon in beak with "E PLURIBUS UNUM" in cloud of swirling stars. Other vignettes include dogs chasing a deer and two panels with owner's initials "L.O.P." and "1849". Stylized fish mouth engrailing with drapery border. SIZE: PROVENANCE: An extraordinary private estate collection of a distinguished Virginia gentleman. CONDITION: Good to very good overall. Horn is dark and appears "as found". Several chips in body. Base appears to have been shortened as drapery decoration is seen cut but has been done for a long time as patina appears matching including iron retaining pins. Wood cap missing its tack.
