JOURNAL OF THE USS DELAWARE, USS POTOMAC, USS LAWRENCE, USS FALMOUTH AND USS CUMBERLAND, 1844-1846.Large folio, fully leather bound, 13-1/4" x 8-1/4" contains over 300 pages of manuscript text commencing January 1, 1844 and ending June 19, 1846. Midshipman Robert B. Storer (1800-1875) gives day-by-day accounts of ship positions, observations and events as seen in sample pages on-line. The last half of this journal details events leading up to the war with Mexico and being part of the American "home squadron" blockading Vera Cruz and wreaking havoc on the Mexican Atlantic coast. In his last assignment on the Cumberland, Storer recounts American victories and the capture of General La Vija and a 13-gun salute to General Zachary Taylor. June 25, ends this journal with Captain French Forrest relieving Captain Dulany in command of this ship. This sequential journal in this group is also offered in this sale starting June 26, 1846.
