GROUP OF STEPHEN DECATUR'S ENGRAVED CALLING CARDS ALONG WITH EARLY WAX SEALS AND CAMEO STICK PIN.There are forty original calling cards measuring about 3-1/4" x 2" engraved on vellum in extremely fine condition with a finely detailed vignette of "United States and Macedonian" after the battle with the Macedonian showing broken mast and United States with full sails and large American flag. Above the vignette is a ribbon with "DECATUR" and American flags on either side and an eagle above. There are also two cards printed on cardstock, one inscribed on reverse, "Tripoli's Stephen Decatur's book plate-die-owned by Aunt Decatur Wright". Included in this lot are three wax seals of various detail, one stating it was "Garnett Crest". There is a tiny about 1/2" silver mounted relief carved red stone cameo mounted on mourning card of Miss Decatur with inscription "For baby Mayo from his Aunt Maria. The pin brought by his grandfather after his first cruise...". SIZE: All housed in a 3-1/2" x 2-1/2" x 1" box. PROVENANCE: A most historical and important collection from the estate of Maria Decatur Mayo Deyo (Lila) Garnett of Kittery Point, Maine. CONDITION: Calling cards are fine, wax seals discernible with cracks. Mourning card is broken at both folds and detached but text discernible and pin is very good with silver patina to bezel. 52714-192 JGS (200-400)
