ESA - LATE 18TH CENTURY NAVAL OCTANT FROM STEPHEN DECATUR FAMILY.15" x 12" ebony and brass with ivory scale, missing maker's plaque. There is an anchor motif etched into center of ivory scale. Retains three original mirrors and sighting disc. "Attic condition" with untouched patina. SIZE: PROVENANCE: A most historical and important collection from the estate of Maria Decatur Mayo Deyo (Lila) Garnett of Kittery Point, Maine. CONDITION: Fair to good. Heavy dark, grungy patina to brass. Ebony body fairly sound. Index arm functional. Ivory scales both worn, stained and discolored with verdigris.
