RARE 1812 DATED NEW JERSEY STATE MILITARY APPOINTMENT TO LT. COLONEL JOHN PINE DECATUR, BROTHER OF COMMODORE STEPHEN DECATUR.Archivally mounted, measuring 15-1/2" x 11-3/4" fancy calligraphy document dated December 4, 1812 and signed by Aaron Ogden, Governor of New Jersey. John Pine Decatur (1786-1832). After the War of 1812, John stayed in the US military with the rank of Captain and worked as a sutler on the Western frontier until his death in 1832. Commodore Decatur had no children and all of his personal artifacts disseminated through his brother's estate. SIZE: PROVENANCE: A most historical and important collection from the estate of Maria Decatur Mayo Deyo (Lila) Garnett of Kittery Point, Maine. CONDITION: Document overall is fair to good with repaired cracks at folds, some reductions. Wax seal is only about 30-40% intact, archivally mounted. 52714-195 JGS (500-1,000)
