IMPORTANT AUGUSTE EDOUART SILHOUETTE OF STEPHEN DECATUR AND MRS. J.P. DECATUR.Circa 1843, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The silhouette portrait shows Stephen Decatur (1814-1876) seated in a chair facing his mother, Mrs. John Pine Decatur (1789-1850) working on embroidery and seated in a chair facing her son. The back of the silhouettes identify the sitters as follows: Mrs. J.P. Decatur, Philadel. 28th Jan. 1843 and Stephen Decatur U. S. N. Philadelphia 28th Jan 7 1843. Additionally marked with original paper label of Arthur S. Bernay New York which states "This silhouette of Mrs. J.P. Decatur & Stephen Decatur was cut by Auguste Edouart during his visit to the United States 1839-1849. SIZE: 10" h x 12" w. PROVENANCE: A most historical and important collection from the estate of Maria Decatur Mayo Deyo (Lila) Garnett of Kittery Point, Maine. CONDITION: Condition of silhouettes very good.
