FINE TRAVELING CASED DECANTER SET.First half 19th century. The top hinged lid opens to reveal a compartmentalized sectioned interior holding six 9" h x 4" w x 2-1/2" d clear hand blown decanters with stoppers and two 7-1/2" h x 2-1/2" w x 2" d similar decanters. Also having two 4-1/2" h stemmed wines that fit sideways at the bottom underneath a compartment that holds two 3-1/2" tumblers. the case having its original key and has two brass bale handles for carrying. The top presentation plaque missing but a copy of John P. Decatur Lieutenant US Navy calling card is folded and included with the box. Family history notes that this tantalus was the property of John Pine Decatur 1786-1382, third generation Decatur. SIZE: As noted above. PROVENANCE: A most historical and important collection from the estate of Maria Decatur Mayo Deyo (Lila) Garnett of Kittery Point, Maine.
