FOUR WAX PORTRAIT BUST SILHOUETTES.1st half 19th century, British and American. All portraits molded and painted. The first of George Washington in military uniform. The second of John Holme, (1722-1808) a Scottish clergyman, dramatist and author. Portrait rendered with greying wavy hair dressed in an olive frock coat. Identification label affixed to back of frame. The third of "Bonny Prince Charlie", grandson of James II, King of England (1720-1788), proper name of Charles Edward Louis Philip Casimir Stuart. Rendered with curled long brown hair, a tartan sash over right shoulder and with a tied linen scarf. Identification label affixed to back of frame. The fourth a bust portrait of Scottish poet Robert Burns (1759-1796). Rendered with wavy brown hair and dressed in what appears to be green tartan cape or sash around his shoulders. All housed in period frames. SIZE: Sight: 1) 4-1/2" h x 3-1/2" w. 2) 4" h x 3" w. 3) 4-1/4" h x 3-1/3" w. 4) 4-1/2" h x 3-3/4" w. PROVENANCE: A most historical and important collection from the estate of Maria Decatur Mayo Deyo (Lila) Garnett of Kittery Point, Maine. CONDITION: The first with tight crack along base of neck running from ear to scarf, now repaired. The second with tight shrinkage crack at back of neck. The third is very good overall. The fourth with horizontal tight shrinkage crack at base of throat, appears stable. All four in overall good condition. Each mounted on fiberboard backing. 52714-65 HMG (1,200-1,800)
