HISTORIC LOT OF FOUR MASSIVE HAND DRAWN AND PAINTED PLANNING MAPS USED BY ADMIRAL MORTON L. DEYO ABOARD THE USS TUSCALOOSA WHO WAS IN CHARGE OF THE NAVAL BOMBARDMENT ON D-DAY JUNE 6, 1944.

Four maps in this archive include: 1) an overview of the British and French coast in one map, 2) view of the French beach with Utah Beachhead squared off 3) large map showing that section with pasted label "UTAH BEACH 6 JUNE 1944". Details of mines, buoys and ship positions as they approach the beach are noted. 4) The most highly detailed map shows position of beach "Tare Green" and beach Uncle Red" code names for two entry points on Utah Beach with exit positions shown going inland. What an important group of maps used on D-Day by the Admiral in charge of bombardment of German positions as British and American troops would start their invasion of France. What an important large display suitable for museum. SIZE: 1) 44" h x 55" 2. 2) 44" h x 28" w. 3) 40-1/2" h x 56-1/2" w. 4) 44" h x 56". PROVENANCE: A most historical and important collection from the estate of Maria Decatur Mayo Deyo (Lila) Garnett of Kittery Point, Maine. CONDITION: Good to very good overall as mounted to cardboard for display. There is soiling, foxing, reductions where maps are hinged, light fading and missing portions of some added text. 52714-176 JGS (800-1,200)
