MISCELLANEOUS LOT OF EPHEMERA, SILVER, AND BRONZE RELATING TO THE MAYO AND WISE FAMILIES.1) A 16" x 21" presidential commission for Wyndham R. Mayo for collector of customs for the district of Norfolk and Portsmouth, in the state of Virginia. Dated 1886, July 31. Signed by Grover Cleveland. 2) A 9" x 7" gouache on board Confederate States of America painting of flags, inscribed on back "No nation rose so far and ___, none fell so free of ci_/ for my dear friend Leigh Robinson with love of H.G." Research indicates that Leigh Robinson 1840-1922 was a confederate soldier and orator. 3) 17" x 12-1/2" three page section of a book concerning Henry Alexander Wise. 4) 28" x 24" printed broadside titled "Confederate Roster of the Family of Henry A. Wise" dated 1908. 5) Two 13" silver plated stuffing spoons by Mappin, each spoon having an ancestral crest of an arrow through heart on scroll. Tag indicates belonging to Wise family. 6) A crucifix with bronze figure and wood cross 13" x 6". SIZE: As noted above PROVENANCE: A most historical and important collection from the estate of Maria Decatur Mayo Deyo (Lila) Garnett of Kittery Point, Maine. CONDITION: 1) Stains, vertical folds and loss to right hand margin. 2) Some water stains, generally good. 3) Water stains. 4) Some soiling, top 6" with tears. 5) Very good. 6) Good. 52714-186 WAG (200-400)
