18 PIECES OF AMERICAN COIN SILVER FLATWARE.The lot includes a 12" coin silver cake server with rectangular blade and a three sided rim made by Foss and Hunnewell, Boston, MA, 1835-1885. The handle engraved "A.P. Decatur" likely for Anna Rowell Philbrick Decatur, wife of Stephen Decatur, third generation Decatur, (nephew and godson of Commodore Stephen Decatur). Eleven matching 6" teaspoons, each spoon engraved "M. Deyo". A 12" soup ladle by Philip B. Sadtler & Sons, Baltimore, MD 1837-1872, the ladle with a cut design and monogrammed "MSD" (Either Mrs. Maria S. Decatur wife of Colonel John Pine Decatur, third generation Decatur or their daughter Miss. Maria Susanna Decatur, fourth generation Decatur. A 9" spoon by John Burger, NY, NY, the spoon engraved "D.M.", nice touch mark "Burger" with eagle head, 18th century. Pair of 8-1/4" spoons engraved "C" on handles by Williams & Victor, Lynchburg VA. 1814-1845 (Jehu Wiliam Sr. & John Victor). 8" sugar sifter by Jones, Lows, & Ball, Boston, MA circa 1839. 6-1/2" sugar spoon monogrammed "JFW". The handle engraved "A.P. Decatur". The cake server is part of an extensive service designed by Anna Rowell Philbrick Decatur, wife of Stephen Decatur, third generation Decatur, (nephew and godson of Commodore Stephen Decatur). The service is made from melted coin- prize money paid to Commodore Decatur and given by him to his nephew. SIZE: 12". PROVENANCE: A most historical and important collection from the estate of Maria Decatur Mayo Deyo (Lila) Garnet of Kittery Point, ME.
