FINE FEDERAL PATRIOTIC GOLD GILT AND CARVED LOOKING GLASS WITH EGLOMISE PANEL.First quarter 19th century, American. The rectangular mirror plate beneath an eglomise panel, decorated with a version of the Great Seal of the United States, a banner in the eagle's beak, clutching a shield and cluster of arrows above crossed bows of holly. The stepped molded cornice above a row of gilt acorn pendant finials. The frieze with molded acanthus leaf and guilloche carvings, a central drapery suspended from acorn finials in the apron, flanked by classical masks, further flanked by floral rosettes. Supported by pairs of engaged spiral twist columns with acanthus leaf capitols and spool-turned bases. SIZE: 46-1/2" h x 26-1/2" w. PROVENANCE: A most historical and important collection from the estate of Maria Decatur Mayo Deyo (Lila) Garnett of Kittery Point, Maine. CONDITION: Mirror plate and eglomise panel original, gilt surfaces original with some minor professional touch-up. Surfaces dry and crusty, most notably at top and bottom of mirror frame.
