Third quarter 18th century, Virginia or Mid-Atlantic region. The rectangular top with applied, molded edge above the conforming case with inset reeded quarter columns centering four graduated long drawers with cockbeaded edges on a molded base, raised on pronounced ogee bracket feet with scalloped returns. The chest fitted with oval brasses of the period, however not original to the chest. SIZE: 33-1/2" h x 36-1/2" w x 22" d. PROVENANCE: A most historical and important collection from the estate of Maria Decatur Mayo Deyo (Lila) Garnett of Kittery Point, Maine. CONDITION: Clean surface overall with light honey-brown color, old shrinkage cracks along seams at top and case sides. Feet appear original. Rear support proper left rear leg replaced.
