EGYPTIAN FAIENCE FIGURE IN THE FORM OF A CAT.Late period, after 700 B.C. but a genuine piece of antiquity. The cat is seen seated with head up. Accompanied by a wood and acrylic display case. Egyptian forms representing animals were attributed to a deity, the cat ascribed to Bast (the Goddess of warfare). Note: Ruth Lynda Deyo (1884-1960) was a successful concert pianist and traveled extensively during her career. In the 1920's she traveled to Egypt where she performed frequently, composing and working as a pioneering ethnomusicologist and became something of an Egyptologist, something quite unusual for a woman at that time. Accompanying her on these trips was her husband Charles Dalton. SIZE: 5" h. PROVENANCE: A most historical and important collection from the estate of Maria Decatur Mayo Deyo (Lila) Garnett of Kittery Point, Maine.
