FINE DIMINUTIVE JACOBEAN CARVED OAK PRESS.18th century, probably Holland. In two parts, the press with turned central rod within a carved frame surmounted by turned finials. Joined to the cabinet base, fitted with a single drawer carved with scrolling leaf tips. The side and rear panels similarly carved. The fluted frame with ebony inlays conforming with the pilasters. The press fitted to and mounted above a table base, the apron carved with scrolling leaf tips flanked by ebony inlaid pilasters, raised on pronounced bulbous legs beneath pierced, scrolled returns on blocked ball feet. SIZE: 61-1/2" h x 23-1/2" w x 18" d. CONDITION: Retains early, if not original, cleaned surface. Normal and expected wear. Small loss to base of one finial and to tip of threaded press rod. Old seam split to upper piece of press. Minor seam shrinkage splits to upper leg. Dowels and rosehead nails all original. Very fine condition overall. 52935-1 HMG (3,500-4,000)
