FINE DIMINUTIVE LOUIS XV MARBLE TOP COMMODE MADE BY ANDRE ANTOINE LARDIN.Mid-18th century, France. The two drawer commode with Breche d'Alep marble top in shades of pink and grey with molded edge and notched corners, fitted above the case, which is branded in each front corner of the top "LARDIN", additionally branded with "ME", the mark of the French Furniture Maker's Guild (Corporation des Menuisiers). The case fitted with two aligned short drawers above a single long drawer, all with rosewood and tulipwood crossbanding and mounted with highly decorative foliate ormolu handles and escutcheons. The case with bombe sides and front, all with matched kingwood and rosewood veneers. The frontal pilasters with foliate cast ormolu mounts above angular cabriole tapering legs terminating with brass-capped sabots. SIZE: 34-3/4" h x 31-3/4" w x 17-3/4" d. CONDITION: Commode professionally restored and now with a rejuvenated French polish surface. Marble original and intact with no blemishes or restoration.
