FINE MARQUETRY INLAID TALL CASE CLOCK BY SYMON LACHEZ.First quarter 18th century, Utrecht, Holland. The bonnet with bombe cap with a rectangular molded crest above a stepped frieze. The molded arched, stepped cornice above the foliate frieze applied with scrolling, pierced foliate veneers over the arched glass panel door flanked by spiral, free-standing columns joined to the case above incurved molding, the throat with paneled door and circular molded viewing window above the molded box base, raised on shaped bracket feet. The case with excellent marquetry throughout. The door with floral filled Classical urns and with mother of pearl elements. The case overall with scrolling foliate marquetry, the case sides also with floral filled urns, centering a portrait bust of an Elizabethan-attired gentleman within a patera. The bonnet with similar marquetry accented with marquetry floral sprigs. The silvered dial with Roman numeral chapter ring within an Arabic minutes ring centering time and strike apertures beneath a subsidiary seconds ring above a calendar aperture within cast-ormolu pierced spandrels with masques. A silvered roundel in the arch signed in script "Symon Lachez / Utreght" mounted within a Royal Coat of Arms, flanked by cherubs. The eight-day weight-driven brass movement with five pillars striking on a bell. The brass backplate unmarked. SIZE: 95" h x 12-1/2" w (throat), 18-1/4" w (case) x 9-1/2" d. CONDITION: Case professionally restored, the French polished surfaces refreshed. The case now exhibits bright and vibrant coloration with very fine surface. One side molding absent at top of bonnet proper left side of crest. Movement appears intact and operational, recently restrung and cleaned. Very fine overall. 53055-1 HMG (8,000-12,000)
