RARE AND EXTRAORDINARY OVAL SAILOR'S VALENTINE.

3th quarter, 19th century. This large example with multiple rows of varied polychrome shellwork. The inner rows of drapery design set with shellwork of three petal flower heads. The central oval with geometric triangles and arrows around a large pink and pale turquoise blue flower. The whole housed in a deep molded walnut frame of the period. The valentine mounted under glass. SIZE: Shellwork 23" h x 19" w. Overall: 26-1/2" h x 22-1/2" w. CONDITION: The shells retain vibrant color with no loose, damaged or restored areas. Very fine to excellent untouched condition. Frame retains original surface with good color and patina. 52829-74 HMG (4,000-6,000)
