EARLY AMERICAN BANNISTER BACK ARMCHAIR.First quarter 19th century New England, possibly Connecticut. The pierced and scrolled Prince of Wales crest joined to block and baluster-turned stiles with turned finials and five split banister splats joined to the molded arms with scrolled grips centering the trapezoidal woven seat raised on blocked and spool-turned frontal legs terminating in Spanish feet joined by a double box stretcher with reel- and ring-turned frontal stretchers. SIZE: 48" h (back), 18-1/2" h (seat) x 23" w. PROVENANCE: Contents of a lifetime collection "Brook Crossing," South Pomfret, VT. CONDITION: Old cleaned surface with normal and expected wear. Rush seat old, if not original. Frame remains tight and sturdy. Good overall condition. 52806-91 HMG (1,500-2,500)
