RARE PAINTED RHODE ISLAND QUEEN ANNE DRESSING TABLE.2nd quarter 18th century Newport, Rhode Island. The rectangular top projecting above the conforming maple and pine case fitted with a two long drawers with molded edge; lower drawer with three simulated draw fronts, the center most fan-carved. The dressing table raised on angular cabriole legs, tapering to slender ankles, terminating in ridged slipper feet unique to the Newport form. The arcaded apron with pendant turned ball finials. The whole with grain painted decoration over original red paint. Reference: See Albert Sack, Fine Points of Furniture, pg 182 for similar examples of Newport slipper foot. SIZE: 32" h x 39-1/2" w x 21-1/4" d. CONDITION: Top retains original pegs. Hardware of the period and in original holes. Finials original. Drawer sides built up at bottoms from wear. Old chip loss proper left front foot, otherwise with scattered grained pain losses. Excellent untouched structural condition. 52738-18 HMG (5,000-10,000)
