UNIQUE FOLK ART CARVING OF A SALMON WITH ENCASED FISH HOOK.Late-19th/early-20th century New England. Carved from the solid, the full body fish with sheet iron fins depicted with a large saltwater lure; the large hook wrapped with animal hair shown mounted within the body and encased in glass. The whole in original red paint beneath later gold paint. SIZE: 38-12/" l x 10". PROVENANCE: Contents of a lifetime collection "Brook Crossing", South Pomfret, VT. CONDITION: Surfaces as noted. Body with old horizontal shrinkage cracks now stable. Normal and expected deterioration to hair on lure. Surfaces undisturbed with good color and patina, very good overall.
