SELECTION OF THREE BLUE DECORATED STONEWARE CROCKS.Second half 19th century. The first 1-1/2 gallon "J. & E. Norton Bennington, Vermont" crock with lid. Free-hand decorated in cobalt blue of a fanciful bird perched on a leafless shrub. The second a jug with gently sloping sides decorated on front and verso with floral leafy sprays. The handles accented with underglaze blue at the terminus of each handle. The third a shallow stoneware cake crock with molded lip above incised line decoration. Decorated on front and verso with flowering branches, the handles with blue decoration at the terminus with slip squiggles beneath, all in cobalt blue. SIZE: First: 10-1/2" h. Second: 10-1/4" h. Third 5-1/4" h x 8-3/4" dia. CONDITION: The first with well-fitted lid and with normal and expected variation in undecorated surface. No other imperfections noted, very good overall. The second with minimal normal and expected in-use wear. Two very shallow flecks within leaves on one floral branch. Small chip and fleabites on bottom rim. Typical variations in tone and color on undecorated portions. Very good overall. The third with in-use wear and shallow chips around edge of top rim. Burst firing bubble at tip of one leaf. Some minor in-use wear and abrasions on side, minimal in nature. Otherwise very good. 52938-5 HMG (900-1,400)
