EXCEPTIONAL AND RARE LARGE PAINTED BEEHIVE-TURNED BURL BOWL.Late 18th century, New England. This nice ash example with strong dry original red-painted exterior. The round form with well-defined lipped rim over strong beehive turnings continuing to a shallow footed base. Interior well-figured and scrubbed with nutty patina. SIZE: 6-1/4" h x 17-1/2" dia. CONDITION: Structurally very good. Early putty-filled area on rim, probably to repair loss of knot. In otherwise fine, untouched condition. 52738-10 HMG (4,000-8,000)
