NEW ENGLAND QUEEN ANNE BIRCH AND MAPLE CHEST ON CHEST.Last quarter 18th century, probably New Hampshire. The case in two parts, the molded cornice joined to the dovetailed case above five graduated long drawers with thumb-molded edges, the uppermost shell-carved at the center flanked by simulated drawers. The upper case joined to the mid-molded lower case fitted with four graduated long drawers with thumb-molded edges, the uppermost drawer shell-carved beneath stylized drapery. Raised on angular, short cabriole legs terminating in circular pad feet centering a scalloped pendant with central cutout diamond. SIZE: 80-1/2" h x 40" w x 20" d. PROVENANCE: By descent through the family of Major John Mead Gould. CONDITION: With mahoganized and old surface extensively cleaned. Brass batwing hardware replaced and of later vintage. Backboards original. Case now with later mahogany stain. Good overall. 52936-1 HMG (2,000-3,000)
