UNUSUAL PAINT DECORATED BLANKET CHEST.Mid-19th century, possibly Pennsylvania or New York. The rectangular hinged lid with applied molded edge opening to an interior fitted with a lidded till. The dovetailed case on an applied molded base. The chest with unusual design featuring a central heart above an angular, stylized column flanked by scrolling "waves", further flanked by conforming double columns at the corners with abstract architecturally inspired design. SIZE: 18" h x 38" w x 17-1/2" d. PROVENANCE: Contents of a lifetime collection "Brook Crossing," South Pomfret, VT. CONDITION: Painted and decorated surface retains strong palate, the molded edges with normal expected wear and abrasion. Proper left molded edge of lid needs stabilization.
