EARLY AMERICAN DECORATED PINE STEP BACK CUPBOARD.

Late 18th-early 19th century New England. The rectangular case with molded cornice above a pair of single plank cupboard doors opening to an interior of three fixed shelves, each door with interesting molded stabilizers to prevent warping. The deep lower case with single door opening to a storage compartment with single shelf. The case sides with bootjack ends. The cupboard retains original feather decoration, most visible on case sides and interior of upper doors. SIZE: 78" h x 36" w x 18" d. PROVENANCE: Contents of a lifetime collection "Brook Crossing," South Pomfret, VT. CONDITION: Structurally sound, the medial shelf showing extensive in-use wear. Good color and patina throughout. Original lock on lower door present but inoperable, old tin patch on bottom shelf. Proper left front corner on lower case exhibits a 10" area of wear and loss of unknown origin. A good honest example of country furniture with undisturbed surface. 52806-34 HMG (1,000-1,500)
