FEDERAL TIGER MAPLE TALL CASE CLOCK.First quarter 19th century, American. The molded swan's neck pediment centering a brass urn form finial above the plain frieze. The molded arch above the glass panel door flanked by colonnettes above the throat with concave molding over engaged reeded quarter columns with brass bases centering a rectangular door. Joined to the box base with concave molding, raised on slender French feet with scalloped shaped apron. The case, well figured, with clean surface. The clock now with wooden works, striking on a bell. The face with a rondel painted with a mountain landscape within the arch above the dial with Roman and Arabic numeral chapter rings. The center with subsidiary dials for seconds and calendar, all within painted spandrels decorated with acorns, vinery and floral sprays. SIZE: 88-1/2" h x 14" throat width, 18-3/4" case width, 9-3/4" d. PROVENANCE: Contents of a lifetime collection "Brook Crossing," South Pomfret, VT. CONDITION: The case with overly cleaned surface. No restoration or repairs noted, retains original glass panels in bonnet. The movement has been re-strung within the last 40 years. The wood face and dial have original paint. Movement needs refurbishing and adjustment. Sweeps second hand absent. 52806-20 HMG (3,000-5,000)
