CHIPPENDALE TIGER MAPLE TALL CHEST OF DRAWERS.Last quarter 18th century, probably Eastern Massachusetts. The rectangular case with applied, molded edge over two aligned short drawers above four graduated long drawers, all with thumb molded edges and with strong figural drawer fronts. The molded base raised on pronounced bracket feet with shaped returns. Chest with chestnut secondary wood throughout. Proper left top drawer with concealed locking mechanism. SIZE: 45" h x 38" w (overall), 35-3/4" w (case) x 19" d. CONDITION: Chest has been cleaned and repolished, now a light honey-brown. Cosmetic restorations to thumb molded edges of top two long drawers. Custom brasses of later vintage in original holes. Wide chestnut backboards original. Bracket feet are new replacements. Polished top with dark circular ring staining. Otherwise structurally good. 52829-75 HMG (2,500-3,500)
