RARE AND FINE ROUND NANTUCKET LIGHTSHIP BASKET WITH HINGED LID.Early 1920's, Nantucket, Massachusetts. Attributed to A. D. Williams, working at 120 Orange Street, Nantucket, Massachusetts. The circular hinged lid with turned maple centerpiece and flattened round knob finial, the rim fastened with brass tacks opening on the conforming basket, fitted with a steam-bent D-form ash handle joined to and swiveling on copper "fingers". The bottom formed by a circular maple disc; bearing evidence of an old paper label, now removed from the basket's base. SIZE: 10-1/2" h (overall), 7-3/4" h (basket only) x 9-1/2" dia. PROVENANCE: Contents of a lifetime collection "Brook Crossing," South Pomfret, VT. CONDITION: Slightly out of round, perhaps due to a slight warping of handle causing one side to become slightly elongated. Basket otherwise structurally good and intact. One area of weaving absent on lid directly opposite hinge. Minimal and minor small breaks in area of midpoint of basket. Good color and pale honey-nut-brown patina. 52806-94 HMG (1,500-2,500)
