ANTONIO NICOLO GASPARO JACOBSEN (American/Danish, 1850-1921) PORTRAIT OF THE SHIP "S.S. PRINS WILLEM I".Oil on board shows the one stack, two mast ship sailing left to right through choppy seas. Several people are seen on deck with black smoke billowing from the central stack and the Dutch flag flies off stern. Three lifeboats are seen attached to their cradles and the bow crashes through a wave under blue and white cloud sky. Signed lower right "Antonio Jacobsen 1906" and titled at center bottom "S.S. Prins Willem I". Housed in a mahogany veneered antique frame. SIZE: 18" h x 29-1/2 w. Overall 22-3/4 h x 34" w. CONDITION: Some older restoration with in-painting, signature may be either enhanced or added. Surface dirt, fly specks with fine craquelure. Frame has some veneer loss. 52399-8 WAG (3,000-5,000)
