WILLIAM H. HORTON (American, late-19th century) REGATTA.Large oil on canvas scene shows a broadside view of the spectator boat "Alert". It shows a captain in the wheelhouse and two ladies at the stern, one with binoculars the other is seated. A man can be seen in the windows and a starting cannon is seen on the top deck. An American flag flies off a mast at the stern. It sails right to left with five schooners in a regatta/race. On the right side is a harbor area with a two story yacht club type building with several sailboats docked near by. Signed lower right "Wm. H. Horton 87". Housed in a modern gilt frame. SIZE: 30" h x 50" w. Overall 33-1/2" h x 53-1/2" w. CONDITION: There are two old patches to verso with corresponding in-painting, scattered in-painting, medial stretcher lines at center, otherwise good. 52895-1 WAG (10,000-20,000)
