REGENCY MAHOGANY AND BEECH TALL CASE CLOCK, JOHN WONTNER, LONDON.First quarter 19th century, England. The bonnet with molded cornice and baluster-turned free-standing colonnettes centering the panel door, joined to the waisted case with arched door joined to a molded box base. The weight-driven brass movement striking on a bell. The backplate marked "OSBORNE". The enameled face paint decorated with a marsh scene embellished with a swimming duck. The dial with Roman numeral chapter ring centering a seconds subsidiary ring above the calendar arch. The whole flanked by time and strike apertures, all above the painted inscription "J. Wontner / London" in black paint. The dial with delicate floral decoration in each corner. Clock is offered with two weights, pendulum, winder, and door key. SIZE: 80-1/2" h x 13-1/4" throat width x 9-1/2" d. PROVENANCE: By descent through the family of Major John Mead Gould. CONDITION: Movement appears intact and functional. Pendulum fastening pin absent. Case surface scrubbed and cleaned. Plinth and base molding on case are absent. 52936-7 HMG (1,200-1,800)
