EXCEPTIONAL PAINT-DECORATED BOSTON ROCKING CHAIR WITH ARMS.1st quarter 19th century New England, perhaps the most exuberantly carved and decorated example we have handled. The rolled 3-dimensional crest rail continuing to boldly scalloped ears. The crest painted and stencil decorated with floral sprigs and fruit filled basket joined to baluster ring and spool-turned stiles centering six arrow form steam bent serpentine splats above the dramatically shaped plank seat. The rolled arms raised on raked spindles. The whole faux grained with mustard and green painted highlights. The frontal seat apron rolled and scrolled to conform with the crest rail. SIZE: 43" h of back x 15" h of seat. Overall width: 23". CONDITION: Excellent untouched original condition with normal minor abrasions from in-use wear. 52738-23 HMG (1,500-3,000)
