SILAS HOADLEY TALL CASE CLOCK.

Second quarter 19th century, Connecticut, Silas Hoadley (1786-1870), Plymouth Connecticut. The bonnet with arched molded crest beneath three pediments alternating with scalloped crests. The glass panel door flanked by simple colonnettes above the case with molded corners over a thumb-molded panel door, flanked by engaged quarter columns, joined to the box base with mid-molding. The case terminating in simple bracket feet with crescent shaped apron. The whole in original beige painted surface. The wood face decorated with a floral spray in a gilt rondel in the arch. The dial with Roman numeral chapter ring with subsidiary seconds dial above simulated time and strike apertures, each within a gold gilt star, centering a decorated rondel painted with a displayed eagle and American shield, clutching arrows within a border painted "S. HOADLEY PLYMOUTH.". The dial within painted spandrels of stylized red fronds flanked by mottled brown hills within a gilt triangular border. The wood weight driven movement striking on a bell. SIZE: 87-1/2" h x 18-3/4" case width x 14" throat width x 10" d. PROVENANCE: Contents of a lifetime collection "Brook Crossing," South Pomfret, VT. CONDITION: The case with original paint surface and glass paneled door. The surface with normal and expected wear and abrasion. No restoration noted. Dial with original paint with overall light craquelure. Sweep seconds hand absent. Light soiling overall, wood works appear intact, clock hands probably later replacements or repainted. 52806-32 HMG (2,000-4,000)
